Sporting Kansas City signs midfielder Danny Flores via waiver

January 16, 2023

Sporting Kansas City signed midfielder Danny Flores via waiver to a one-year deal.

Flores will hope to break into the senior team at SKC.

The 20-year-old’s deal sees him through the 2023 MLS season at Children’s Mercy Park, with options held by SKC extending to 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Flores — a former U.S. junior international — is now resuming his pro career after spending two years as a college student at Virginia Tech. During that time, he scored five goals and provided five assists in 33 appearances and was named to the 2021 ACC All-Freshman Team.

However, Flores does have professional experience before, with 32 USL championship appearances between 2019 and 2021 for the Philadelphia Union II and Oaklands, having previously worked in the league’s prestigious youth system.

The Sporting Kansas City team missed the MLS Cup playoffs last year and started the season at the Portland Timbers on Feb. 25.
